Tips for sailing through the winter season with zest
As we transition to winter in the Puget Sound, with shorter days and colder weather, we naturally spend more time indoors and tend to become less active. With less sunshine and less activity, many can become susceptible to work stress, holiday stress, even Seasonal Affective Disorder in cases. During the winter months it’s important that we be proactive, plan events and activities that we’ll really look forward to, and continue to do the things that support our physical, emotional and spiritual heath. Here are some ideas to “spice” up your winter months, keep the stress down and enjoy the more “reflective” nature of the winter months.
-
Spend time with friends and family.
-
Schedule regular massage and bodywork.
-
Engage in your community (church, volunteer opportunities, neighborhood outreach).
-
Explore your creativity by enrolling in community college or continuing education classes.
-
Join a gym or health club for cardio activities, weight training, stretching, yoga, etc.
-
“Gear up” and enjoy winter outdoor activities as much as possible.
-
Eat well, reduce your caffeine, sugar and alcohol consumption.
-
Attend cultural events music, theater, dance and/or visual arts.
-
Learn to dance (great active, indoor activity).
-
Read, reflect, meditate.
Whatever works to keep you active, centered, stress free and creative will allow you to enjoy these winter months with zest!

Helpful Hints for Seasonal or H1N1 Flu
As you’ve undoubtedly already know, this fall and winter we are at elevated risk for exposure
to the season and the h1n1 flu. We’ve included some information and links to help keep you
both informed and healthier this fall and winter.
-
We recommend if you’re not feeling well (beginning or full blown stage of flu-like symptoms,
you reschedule your massage. Receiving massage when ill often makes your symptoms worse.
-
Stay home when you are sick. If you have
flu symptoms call your doctor for advice, and stay home from work, school, or other public events.
-
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
-
Clean your hands often. When washing your hands, wash for at least 20 seconds. Use an
alcohol-based hand cleaner when you can’t wash your hands.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches
something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his/her eyes, nose, or mouth.
-
Get plenty of rest, manage your stress through exercise, drink plenty of fluids and eat
healthy, nutritious food. For natural tips for staying healthy, review this “Flu treatment”
tip sheet from our friends at
Greenlake Nutrition.
Visit flu.gov for much more useful information regarding seasonal and h1n1 flu.

Special Offer: Negotiating family dynamics during the Holidays!
If you sometimes struggle through the holiday season because of family dynamics, we have an
interesting suggestion to try out this season. Imagine you are in a play. You have your role
to play and every body else has theirs. The only two rules are:
-
You’re not allowed to try and change other people’s roles, characters or scripts,
-
You can change your own role, character and script as you wish.
Let’s say I have a relative and they are “feeling down” and they need me to listen to them
“process.” I could play out a role of being impatient and judgmental (“here we go again,
they’re like this every year…”), or I could be compassionate, help them process and connect
to their strengths. Which role I play causes the entire interaction either a supportive
opportunity to connect on a human level with your family members, or the continuation of a
nasty family drama that keeps replaying year in and year out.
Next imagine at the end of the drama, the entire cast of actors and actresses come out on the
stage as themselves to bow. What role did they see me act out? What role did I see them act
out? Recognizing we are all actors and actresses helps us get beyond the play itself and begin
to appreciate our family members for who they are as people, with all their strengths and weaknesses.
Have fun with it – separating your family “actors and actresses” from who they really are at their
“soul levels” helps you connect with them, and helps you remain “energetically neutral” and in a
space of gratitude and grace throughout the holidays.
For those who are interested in exploring your own “energetic dynamics” and how that plays into
your “family dynamics,” Kaori is offering private, one-hour "Energy System Consultations.” Gain
insights into your relationship with yourself, your family and friends, and your energetic
connections to them – and how those connections impact your life.
Kaori deeply believes in the value of understanding our own “energetic dynamics” and wants to share
her passion and natural ability to assist others in this unique journey. To make it even more
affordable to experience this work, Kaori is offering a one-hour consultation (recorded and pressed
to CD) for only $40 (regularly $80). This special offer is good now through February 28th, 2010.
I have experienced different types of clairvoyant sessions in the past, but my session with Kaori
really provided accurate details of my current life patterns and issues. I was amazed that she
also was able to connect with the energetic influences my grandmother has in my life and was able
to describe our “energetic relationship.” This reading was an eye opening and inspiring experience
for me – Kaori is so compassionate and positive that I felt comfortable allowing myself to be in
touch with my own soul. Having the session with her gave me a clearer and deeper understanding
of myself and my life. The insights and understanding I gained regarding my past and why I’m
on the earth helps me chart a path to my future. Thank you, Kaori for helping me to more clearly
see and understand who I really am on an energetic, spiritual and soul level.
-- H. H, Seattle, WA
Give one of these unique sessions to yourself (or someone else) as a holiday gift this year – you
may just experience the holidays in a wonderful new way!

Insurance Patients: Review your health plan benefits in January
Many employers review and update the benefit plans they offer their employees in either January or July.
If you’ve recently gone through a health benefits re-enrollment process at your company, please take a
minute to review your massage benefits, massage visits per year, visit co-payment amounts and overall
plan deductible amounts. Understanding the details of your new plan before you begin receiving massage
or other health services can eliminate surprises and will help you make more informed choices.
