Your Medical Massage sessions will be focused on healing your injuries, or improving or managing the medical
conditions you may be experiencing.
Each Medical Massage session may feel differently, depending on your medical condition or which stage of the
injury recovery process you're in. For injuries, you'll probably take steps forward and at times feel like you're
taking steps backwards in your recovery process. For medical conditions, you may experience "ups and downs." Be
patient, rest, eat well, and follow your physician's treatment plan.

Before Your Massage

Before Your Medical Massage
Once you've completed your intake and/or insurance forms, you and your practitioner
will discuss your injuries, symptoms, pain patterns, etc. Your practitioner may also do some assessments of
your posture and range of motion. Next your practitioner will formulate an approach to treating you for the
session and decide whether you'll begin the session on your back (face-up) or on your front (face-down comfortably
in the padded face cradle). Your practitioner will leave you in private for a few minutes to undress and lie on
the table, between the sheets and under a light blanket. For injury treatment Medical Massage, some clients
disrobe partially, since these sessions focus specifically on the areas of injury noted in your physicians
treatment plan or indicated by the diagnosis codes on your prescription. Talk with your practitioner and choose
what's most comfortable for you. For warmth and privacy, you will be covered at all times except
for the area of your body your practitioner is working on.
Medical Massage treatment is provided only for the prescribed area(s) and condition(s) diagnosed by your licensed
physician, naturopath or chiropractor. If you request massage unrelated to your prescription
(not covered by your insurance), you will be responsible for payment of those massage services.

During Your Medical Massage
|
During Your Massage
Your Medical Massage will focus on treating the injuries or conditions specified
in your physician's prescription and diagnosis codes. Living Lotus Massage takes our oath of integrity seriously.
Please don't ask for Wellness Massage as part of your Medical Massage session, unless it is specifically part of
your physician's treatment plan. Living Lotus Massage provides Medical Massage that is safe, effective and that
focuses on healing your injuries and/or addressing your medical conditions.
Normally, as you progress through your recovery process (for injury cases), your massage sessions get more specific,
deeper and includes more active participation on your part. This is because as the more superficial
muscular structures heal and strengthen, we are able to treat deeper and deeper strucures that may still be weak,
inflamed and either still injured and/or compromised. For medical conditions, we draw upon our experience with
different Medical and/or Wellness techniques which specifically address your treatment goals and your physicians
treatment plan. We may apply hot and cold therapies as necessary or when called for by your physician's treatment plan.
If you experience any discomfort, pain or have any other concerns during your massage, please let your
practitioner know. They will listen and adjust their treatment methods, level of pressure or approach to suit your
needs. Should you have any other concerns during your massage, please let your practitioner know.
Living Lotus Massage tracks Medical Massage session progress and provides a progress report to your referring
physician as part of our standard Medical Massage treatment process.

After Your Medical Massage
|
After Your Massage
The results of each session may feel different, depending on your medical
condition, the nature of your injuries or current stage of recovery.
Occassionally, you may actually feel sore after the massage or the next day after your massage. This is not uncommon
due to the nature of different medical conditions or injuries. The mechanical nature of massage can occassionally
slightly enhance inflamation, depending on the depth and vigor of the massage session. Our practitioners are
skilled at "walking the fine line" between helpful massage and massage that could be counter-productive.
We recommend you talk with your practitioner throughout your session so they can adjust to your needs,
so post-massage soreness, if any, will be minimal.
If you should feel discomfort after your massage, make sure and let your practioner know. They will be able to
recommed actions you can take that may help, which could include applying hot or cold packs upon your return home,
or other actions. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. Normally, any discomfort that
arises due to massage treatment activities will only last a short time.
Again, be sure and bring up any discomfort you feel with your practitioner so the two of you can
discuss options, and so your practitioner can include the information in the progress report we provide your
referring physician.
